So if you dont know, SOPA is a bill meant to provide the RIAA with even bigger weapons to obliterate 'copyrights violators', except the bill is so poorly worded and technically inept that it threatens the existence of the internet - no hyperbole there, thats just the truth.
I read this morning that GoDaddy, a maginally acceptable registrar in the first place in my eyes, supported SOPA in a big way: 'GoDaddy called the bill "a welcome step in the right direction." Those opposed have a "myopic view" of SOPA, GoDaddy argued.' Ouch.
Unfortunately, I have domains hosted there. It happened a long time ago, when I was young - dont judge me! These things tend to just hang around until something pushes you to change it, and well; this is it, for me. A FB post led to a friend linking me a great LifeHacker article with discount codes for just this situation.
I picked NameCheap to transfer to, and just using their site made me much happer. Simple and clean, I didnt feel like I needed a shower after visiting their site, unlike GoDaddy. The back and forth with approval codes and emails has been an all day affair, but it is almost done.
I must not have been the only one, because GoDaddy suddenly dropped their support for SOPA - too late guys, and I really wasnt all that pleased with you to begin with.
If you are considering using NameCheap, please click through the tiny banner for them at the bottom of this page, and I will get some small discount. :)
